About the product
What are Viagra Connect Melts?
Viagra Connect Melts are a Pharmacy medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction in adult men. Erectile dysfunction is when a man has difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough for satisfactory sexual activity.
Each Viagra Connect Melt is an orodispersible film containing sildenafil 50 mg. The film is placed on the tongue, where it dissolves without needing to be swallowed whole like a conventional tablet.
Viagra Connect Melts can be supplied without a prescription, but a pharmacist suitability assessment is required before supply to make sure sildenafil is appropriate and safe for you.
How do Viagra Connect Melts work?
Sildenafil belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors, or PDE5 inhibitors. It helps relax blood vessels in the penis, allowing more blood to flow into the penis when you are sexually stimulated.
Viagra Connect Melts do not create an erection automatically and do not increase sexual desire. Sexual stimulation is still required for the medicine to work.
What are Viagra Connect Melts used for on this page?
On this product page, Viagra Connect Melts are used specifically for:
– Erectile dysfunction in adult men aged 18 years and over
– Difficulty getting an erection firm enough for sexual activity
– Difficulty maintaining an erection for long enough to complete sexual activity
They are not intended for:
– Men who do not have erectile dysfunction
– Anyone under 18 years of age
– Women
– Use as a recreational sexual-performance enhancer
– Use alongside another erectile dysfunction treatment unless specifically advised by a doctor
Who may be suitable for Viagra Connect Melts?
You may be suitable if:
– You are a man aged 18 years or over with erectile dysfunction
– You are generally well enough for sexual activity
– You are not taking nitrate medicines, nitric oxide donors or riociguat
– You do not have a medical condition that makes sildenafil unsuitable
– You can follow the dosing and safety advice provided by the pharmacist
The pharmacist will consider:
– Your heart and circulation health
– Whether you experience chest pain or severe breathlessness with moderate physical activity
– Your blood pressure and relevant cardiovascular history
– Any history of stroke or heart attack
– Your kidney and liver health
– Your eyesight and any previous serious eye conditions
– Any other erectile dysfunction treatments you use
– All medicines you take, including nitrates, alpha-blockers, riociguat, ritonavir and other interacting medicines
Who should not use Viagra Connect Melts or needs medical advice first?
Do not use Viagra Connect Melts if you:
– Take nitrate medicines for chest pain, such as glyceryl trinitrate or isosorbide preparations
– Use nitric oxide donors such as amyl nitrite, sometimes known as poppers
– Take riociguat
– Take ritonavir

– Have a bleeding disorder or active stomach ulcer
– Have significant heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, serious heart rhythm problems or significant valve disease
How do I take Viagra Connect Melts?
The standard adult directions are:
– Take one 50 mg orodispersible film when needed
– Take it approximately 1 hour before sexual activity
– Take it on an empty stomach for the most predictable and rapid absorption
– Do not take more than one 50 mg film in any 24-hour period
How to use the Melt:
– Carefully peel open the aluminium pouch rather than cutting it
– Use a dry finger to remove the film
– Place the film on your tongue and allow it to dissolve
– Saliva may be swallowed while the film is dissolving, but do not swallow the film whole
– The film can be taken with or without water
– Use it immediately after removing it from the pouch
A high-fat meal can significantly delay absorption and may delay the effect, so the product is recommended on an empty stomach.
You may need to try sildenafil on several different occasions before deciding how well it works for you. If you still cannot achieve a satisfactory erection after several attempts on different occasions, speak to your doctor.
How quickly does Viagra Connect Melts work?
Sildenafil is taken approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. Some men may respond sooner, but the exact onset varies. Food, particularly a high-fat meal, can delay absorption and delay the effect.
The medicine only helps when sexual stimulation occurs. It does not cause a continuous erection and its effects wear off naturally.
General advice for erectile dysfunction
– Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol before sexual activity, as alcohol can make it harder to achieve an erection
– Do not combine Viagra Connect Melts with another sildenafil product, tadalafil, vardenafil, avanafil or another erectile dysfunction treatment unless advised by a doctor
– Smoking, excess alcohol, obesity, inactivity, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol can contribute to erectile dysfunction
– Persistent erectile dysfunction can sometimes be an early sign of cardiovascular or metabolic disease
– Men using Viagra Connect should arrange a clinical review with their doctor within 6 months to assess possible underlying causes and cardiovascular risk factors
Side effects and when to get help
Common side effects of sildenafil include headache, facial flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, dizziness, nausea and temporary visual disturbances such as blurred vision or changes in colour perception.
Stop using the product and seek urgent medical attention if you develop chest pain, a severe allergic reaction, sudden loss or marked reduction of vision, a seizure, or an erection lasting longer than 4 hours.
If chest pain occurs during or after sexual activity, do not use nitrate medicines to treat the pain after taking sildenafil. Seek urgent medical assistance and tell the healthcare professional that you have taken sildenafil.

Frequently Asked Questions
Each orodispersible film contains sildenafil 50 mg.
Peel open the pouch with dry hands, place the film on your tongue and allow it to dissolve. It can be taken with or without water and should be used immediately after opening the pouch.
Take one film approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. It is recommended on an empty stomach because food, particularly a high-fat meal, can delay absorption and delay the effect.
Do not take more than one 50 mg Viagra Connect Melt in any 24-hour period.
No. Sildenafil helps improve the erectile response to sexual stimulation. It does not automatically cause an erection and does not increase sexual desire.
Small amounts of alcohol do not necessarily prevent sildenafil from working, but drinking a large amount can temporarily reduce your ability to get an erection and may increase dizziness or blood-pressure-related side effects.
No. Sildenafil must not be used with nitrate medicines or nitric oxide donors such as amyl nitrite because the combination can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure.
No. Do not combine Viagra Connect Melts with another sildenafil product or another PDE5 inhibitor such as tadalafil, vardenafil or avanafil unless a doctor has specifically advised you to do so.
Some men need to try sildenafil on several different occasions before getting the best response. Make sure you use it correctly, allow enough time, avoid a heavy meal beforehand and have adequate sexual stimulation. If it remains ineffective after several separate attempts, speak to your doctor.
Seek immediate medical attention. A prolonged erection can damage penile tissue if it is not treated promptly.
Viagra Connect Melts are a Pharmacy medicine. The pharmacist needs to check your cardiovascular health, medicines and other medical conditions because sildenafil can be unsafe with certain medicines and health problems.
Erectile dysfunction can sometimes be linked to conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol or cardiovascular disease. Men using Viagra Connect are advised to arrange a clinical review with their doctor within 6 months.
