About the product
Wegovy pill
The Wegovy pill is a daily prescription-only GLP-1 weight loss pill. Just like the Wegovy injections, Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide, which mimics a natural hormone in the body responsible for appetite and hunger.
Wegovy tablets can help support effective weight loss when paired with a lower calorie diet and increased exercise. They can help reduce food cravings, decrease appetite, and slow digestion to help you feel fuller for longer. A recent study found patients lost 13.6% of their body weight after 64 weeks of oral Wegovy treatment with nearly 80% of patients losing at least 5% of their starting weight.
As a daily oral tablet, the Wegovy pill is an effective, needle-free weight loss alternative for people who want to avoid weekly injections or are uncomfortable with needles. If you started your treatment with Wegovy injections, it’s also possible to make the switch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, the Wegovy pill is safe to use as part of your weight loss journey under clinical supervision. In the UK, Wegovy pills are the only GLP-1 tablets licensed for weight loss by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The MHRA are responsible for making sure any medical treatment and device in the UK is safe and effective for its intended use.
How long you take Wegovy tablets depends on your target weight and response to treatment. You can take Wegovy tablets for as long as you need to, so long as it’s effective and not causing disruptive side effects. You can also choose to stop treatment whenever you want. Just make sure you discuss this with your prescriber beforehand.
You can buy the Wegovy pill online through a licensed and registered pharmacy after a consultation with a specialist prescriber. As the Wegovy pill is a prescription-only medication, it’s not available to buy over the counter.
You can get a Wegovy prescription online with a UK-registered prescriber here at My Chemist Plus. Just complete a short online form to start your discreet consultation and we’ll help you find a weight loss treatment that’s safe and appropriate for you.
The difference between the Wegovy tablet and injection is that the tablet is a daily oral GPL-1 pill, while the injection is a GLP-1 that you must inject weekly. Because of this, they have slightly different doses. But, they are both effective weight loss treatments when used alongside diet and exercise.
Like any medication, oral Wegovy may cause side effects. Many are mild and manageable, while others can be more serious. It’s difficult to say what the ‘worst’ side effects are as everybody responds differently and you may not get side effects at all.
Some serious side effects of the Wegovy tablet include vision changes, an allergic reaction, inflammation to your pancreas, kidney or bladder stones, hip fractures and a bowel obstruction. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek urgent medical care.
Your specialist prescriber will discuss the benefits and risks of treatment during your consultation to help you understand what to expect and what to look out for.
Many side effects of the Wegovy pill can last anywhere between a few days to a few weeks. Most side effects are mild, temporary and manageable, such as headaches, diarrhoea and nausea.
Many people find they get side effects when they first start Wegovy and when they go up a dose. Once their body adjusts to the treatment, the side effects get better and eventually go away. If you’re struggling to cope with your side effects, speak to your prescriber.
Everybody responds differently to the oral Wegovy tablet. For some people, they may see changes to their appetite within the first few days of starting treatment. For others, it may take longer. Most people see a significant change in their weight once they reach the maintenance dose of 25mg. A 2025 study found people taking the 25mg oral Wegovy tablet lost 13% of their body weight after 64 weeks (1 year and 2 months) of treatment.
It may take several months for you to get to the oral Wegovy maintenance dose (25mg) as you’ll start at the lowest dose. Your prescriber will make sure your Wegovy journey goes at a pace that minimises treatment-related side effects and maximises safe weight loss.
If you have not lost at least 5% of your starting body weight after 6 months, your prescriber may recommend that you stop Wegovy treatment. This is because Wegovy may not be an effective option for you. They may discuss alternative options, such as Mounjaro.
Wegovy is not licensed for use in people with type 1 diabetes. When combined with insulin therapy, it carries a high risk of significant hypoglycaemia and diabetic ketoacidosis.
In the UK, there are currently no prescription weight loss medications licensed for use in people with type 1 diabetes. Instead, patients can explore alternative options with their diabetes management team, including lifestyle changes, adjusting insulin strategies, and non-weight loss medications.
How much the Wegovy pill costs in the UK depends on where you buy your medication.
At My Chemist Plus, you can securely order Wegovy online after a private consultation with one of our experienced prescribers. We’re a GPhC-registered and regulated pharmacy, so you can be sure you’re always getting MHRA-approved medication that’s right and safe for you.

There are certain medications that need to be managed carefully when used alongside Wegovy tablets, including:
- Levothyroxine for thyroid issues
- Oral blood-clotting medication (also called anticoagulants), such as warfarin
- Other GLP-1 agonist treatments, such as Saxenda or Mounjaro
If you take these medicines or any other medication or treatment, it’s important to let your prescriber know. This makes sure your treatment remains safe and effective for you.
While the Wegovy pill can be an effective addition to a weight loss or management plan, it may not be suitable for everybody.
Do not take the Wegovy pill if you’re allergic to semaglutide, if you or a family member have had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2).
If you have any of the following, let your prescriber know during the consultation as the Wegovy tablet may not be suitable for you:
- Have diabetes
- Have kidney problems
- Have past or present pancreas issues, for instance pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
- Have a condition affecting your digestive system, such as gastroparesis where the stomach empties slowly
- Take certain medication, such as levothyroxine for thyroid disease or anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin, acenocoumarol)
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a child
If the Wegovy pill is not suitable for you, there are other alternatives, such as Mounjaro. Your specialist prescriber will explore your options during your initial consultation to help you find treatment that’s safe and effective for you.
In the UK, you can buy Wegovy tablets online from registered pharmacies. Always look for a provider that’s registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and offers a consultation with a medical professional. This makes sure you’re getting the genuine, approved Wegovy tablet.

Just like the Wegovy injection, the Wegovy tablet contains semaglutide. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which plays an important role in regulating hunger and appetite. This makes it an effective support for weight loss when used alongside diet and exercise.
While you can drink alcohol on Wegovy pills, it is not recommended as it may impact your weight loss progress. Many alcoholic beverages are high in calories and can affect your blood sugar levels. Alcohol can also make the side effects of Wegovy pills worse, particularly gastrointestinal side effects, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
If you do decide to drink alcohol while taking Wegovy pills, drink in moderation and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
You can find the expiry date for your Wegovy pills on the box and carton it comes in. It is labelled ‘EXP’. Do not use the medication after the expiry date stated.
