Colpermin IBS relief capsules are an antispasmodic medicine used for the treatment of symptoms of IBS which include spasms and cramps. The capsules contain peppermint oil and have a special coating (called an enteric coat) that ensures the capsules do not dissolve until they have passed through the stomach and upper intestine.

Once the capsule reaches the lower intestine, it slowly releases the peppermint oil as it passes through the bowel and acts directly on the muscle of the bowel wall causing this to relax and relieve the spasms. It alleviates pain and allows pockets of gas, which may have caused bloating, to pass through the bowel and out of the body.

• stomach pain and spasm
• feeling bloated and having wind
• having diarrhoea (with or without constipation)

How to take Colpermin IBS relief

• Do not take the capsules immediately after food or at the same time as indigestion remedies as they may damage the capsules.
• do not chew or break the capsules before swallowing as this will prevent the medication from working.

Colpermin IBS Relief Capsules are hard gelatine capsules and there is a chance that the capsules could break when they are pushed out.

You should push the capsules from the blister pocket with slight pressure toward the end of the capsule.

Dosage

• Take one capsule -three times a day

If your symptoms are severe,the dose can be increased to two capsules taken three times a day. You should continue to take the capsules until the symptoms are resolved which is usually within a week or two. Treatment can continue for longer periods of time, between two and three months, if you your symptoms are persistent.

• cook homemade meals using fresh ingredients when you can
• keep a diary of what you eat and any symptoms you get – try to avoid things that trigger your IBS
• try to find ways to relax
• get plenty of exercise
• try probiotics for a month to see if they help

Things to avoid which may make your IBS worse:

• do not delay or skip meals
• do not eat too quickly
• do not eat lots of fatty, spicy or processed foods
• do not eat more than 3 portions of fresh fruit a day (a portion is 80g)
• do not drink more than 3 cups of tea or coffee a day
• do not drink lots of alcohol or fizzy drinks
