What is Zidoval 0.75% Gel?

Zidoval 0.75% gel contains Metronidazole, which is a antibacterial that works by killing many kinds of bacteria that cause infections. Zidoval gel is an effective treatment for certain infections of the vagina (called bacterial vaginosis or BV for short) in adults. BV is a mild bacterial infection of the vagina, characterised by grey-white discharge with a fishy smell.

Zidoval gel is applied inside the vagina where it destroys the bacteria at the site of the infection. It is important that bacterial vaginosis is treated and cleared completely otherwise the infection can come back. You must take the full course of this medicine as prescribed by your doctor to prevent this from happening.

Zidoval gel can help to clear up BV infections usually within 7 days.

How do you use it?

Before you apply Zidoval 0.75% gel Good hygiene whilst using Zidoval gel is very important. Always wash your hands before opening the tube or touching the applicators. Use a fresh applicator for each dose and immediately throw away each used applicator in the waste bin.

Adult dose

The dose of Zidoval gel is one 5 g application inserted into the vagina once daily, at bedtime, for five consecutive days.

Use in the elderly This medicine is not recommended for use by the elderly

Fill the applicator all the way to the top with Zidoval 0.75% Gel, then insert it as far into the vagina as is comfortable. Gently press the plunger on the applicator to release the medication into the vagina. You need to use the Zidoval Gel every evening before bed because the treatment works overnight. This is the best time so the gel stays in your vagina. If you get up and walk around you may lose some of the Zidoval Gel.

Zidoval vaginal gel and Alcohol

You should strictly avoid alcohol while you are using Zidoval Gel. Drinking alcohol while using Zidoval Gel can cause in severe headaches, nausea and vomiting. You can drink alcohol 3 days after you have finished the treatment course.

When can you have sex after using Zidoval vaginal gel?

You should avoid sexual intercourse during treatment. You can resume sexual activity 3 days after you have completed the course.

Can you use Zidoval Gel on your period?

If you are on your period, you cannot use Zidoval Gel. You can opt for Metronidazole 400mg oral tablets instead.
