Description
Fluconazole belongs to a group of medicines called “antifungals” and is used to treat infections caused by fungi. The most common cause of fungal infection is a yeast called Candida which is found in Genital thrush (infection of the vagina or penis) .
Do not take Fluconazole 150mg capsules
If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Fluconazole 150mg capsules (listed in section 6 of leaflet)
If you are allergic to any other medicines that you have taken to treat a fungal infection. The symptoms may include itching, reddening of the skin or difficulty in breathing
If you are taking terfenadine or astemizole (an antihistamine for allergies)
If you are taking cisapride (used for stomach upsets)
If you are taking quinidine (used for treating heart arrhythmia).
If you are taking pimozide (for treating a mental disorder (Schizophrenia).
If you are taking erythromycin (an antibiotic for treating infections).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking fluconazole capsules if:
you are suffering from liver or kidney problems
you are suffering from heart disease, including heart rhythm problems
you have abnormal levels of potassium, calcium or magnesium in your blood
develop severe skin reactions (itching, reddening of the skin or difficulty in breathing)
you develop signs of ‘adrenal insufficiency’ where the adrenal glands do not produce adequate amounts of certain steroid hormones such as cortisol (chronic, or long lasting fatigue, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss, abdominal pain)
It’s important to get thrush in men diagnosed to rule out things like balanitis or a sexually transmitted infection (STI).
Thrush should clear up within a week, after 1 dose of medicine or using the cream daily.
You don’t need to treat partners, unless they have symptoms.

Thrush
Thrush is a common yeast infection that affects men and women. It’s usually harmless but it can be uncomfortable and keep coming back. It isn’t classed as a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

See a GP or go to a sexual health clinic if: you have the symptoms of thrush for the first time you’re under 16 or over 60 your thrush keeps coming back (more than twice in 6 months) treatment hasn’t worked you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you have thrush and a weakened immune system – for example, because of diabetes, HIV or chemotherapy

Things you can do yourself to ease discomfort and prevent thrush returning
Do
use water and emollient (instead of soap), like E45 cream, to wash your penis or vagina dry the affected area properly after washing wear cotton underwear avoid sex until thrush has cleared up use a condom to help stop it spreading take showers instead of baths
Don’t
do not use soaps or shower gels do not use douches or deodorants on your vagina or penis do not wear tight underwear or tights
Side Effects
Like all medicines, Fluconazole 150mg capsules can cause side effects, although not everybody getsthem.A few people develop allergic reactions although serious allergic reactions are rare.
If you get anyside effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed inthis leaflet.
If you get any of the following symptoms, tell your doctor immediately.
sudden wheezing, difficulty in breathing or tightness in the chest
swelling of eyelids, face or lips
itching all over the body, reddening of the skin or itchy red spots
skin rash
severe skin reactions such as a rash that causes blistering (this can affect the mouth and tongue).Fluconazole 150mg capsules may affect your liver. The signs of liver problems include:
tiredness
loss of appetite
vomiting
yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes (jaundice)If any of these happen, stop taking Fluconazole 150mg capsules and tell your doctorimmediately
