All women have hair on their body, including the face. The hair is usually fine and light in colour, which is commonly known as vellus hair, or even peach fuzz. Facial and body hair does not need to be removed if its not causing you any concerns and there is no medical reason as to why it should be removed.

Some women may have darker, thicker or coarse hair on their bodies which can be caused by many different factors like lifestyle, health conditions or even genetics. Women from certain ethnic groups can naturally have darker or thicker hair which is more visible especially on the face. Being overweight or obese can also cause excessive hair growth, as well as taking some medications.

If you start to notice any excessive or unusual hair growth on your body, then it may be time to visit your GP. They can rule out any underlying health problems which may be indirectly causing excessive hair growth. Certain health conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can cause hair growth in unwanted places as it causes your body to create more testosterone which can stimulate hair growth.

When facial or body hair becomes dark and coarse it can often cause distress and you may want to consider removing it. There are a wide range of options available on the market to remove unwanted hair, but many treatments only work temporarily. We are proud to be able to offer treatments which are only available on prescription and can provide more of a long-term solution for you.
